The playa definitely took its toll on me — it was an exceptionally dusty year, and I got a bad case of playa lung, as they call it. Burning Man is held on a giant dry lake bed covered in alkali dust, which becomes more and more churned up as the week goes on. Every gust of wind sends giant clouds of fine white dust into the air, sometimes so huge that they obscure the entire sky and limit visibility to less than 5 feet!
